Year 3 Class Charity

Refugee Action help people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. They get them the basic support they need to live again with dignity. Then they help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK.

Their vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They will get justice, live free of poverty and be able to successfully rebuild their lives.

Regardless of how people seeking safety arrive in the UK, their journey to a safe, productive life is not over. So many challenges face refugees and people seeking asylum right here in the UK – and that’s why Refugee Action exist.

Library Visit

Year 3 visited Pendleton library this week to become official library members! Each child got a membership card and were able to check out a book of their choice and take it home.

Soil Investigation

The children have been carrying out an investigation on different types of soils in Year 3 this week. They looked at soil bought from a shop, garden soil and playground soil. Their investigation was carried out to determine which soil would absorb water and which soil would drain water. The children looked closely with magnifying glasses to see which soil absorbed the water the best. Their final conclusion was that fresh soil from a bag absorbed water the best.

Measuring in Metres and Centimetres

The Year 3 children have been looking at measuring in metres and centimetres in maths this week. In class they measured different things around the classroom to practice measuring a range of different objects.

Year 3's Class Assembly

Year 3 carried out an excellent assembly about different languages around the world. They focused on how different countries say "hello" and the importance of embracing their differences. They also showed the range of diversity in our year 3 class and how many different ways there are to say "hello" in our class. Miss O'Rourke is super proud of how hard all of the children worked to make our assembly come together. Also, thank you to all the parents who attended.

Christmas Pantomime

Today the children went to 'The Jack and the Beanstalk' Christmas pantomime. They all had the most amazing time. Please take a look at the photos below!

Christmas Craft Morning

As we prepare for Christmas we invited the children's family into school to create some festive crafts! The elf on the shelf also made an appearance in Year 3 today as he didn't want to miss out on the beginning of the Christmas celebrations! Thank you to everyone who came :)

Roald Dahl Day

Today was Roald Dahl day! The children had to dress up as their favourite character from a Roald Dahl book and donate £1 which went towards new playground equipment. The children also spent the afternoon designing their own character to put in their book if they were an author like Roald Dahl. Have a look at the costumes the children wore and the characters they designed!

Rights and Diversity Week

This week we have been showing awareness of the universal and unconditional rights that we all have. These rights belong to everyone and should be honoured. This week we also celebrated Anti-Bullying week where we talked about the Anti-Bullying Alliances 'Reach Out' campaign. As part of that campaign, we wore odd socks and collected £1 to be donated to CAFOD. Have a look at some of the activities we have taken part in to raise awareness of the rights we all have and that we will always 'Reach Out' to anyone who needs it.

StemAZING!

Over the next 6 weeks the children in Year 3 will be taking part in a StemAZING programme where they have the opportunity to carry out practical activities looking at key aspects of Science. This week the children were looking at weight and strength and they had to build towers and see how many books their towers could hold up. Have a look at some of the fantastic towers the children built below and how many books their towers were able to hold.

Multi-faith Parents Morning

We have had a lovely morning welcoming some of our parents in to learn about other religions. We have been learning about other religions. We have been focusing on Hinduism and the story of Buda. We looked at a map to show all of the different place that Hindus live and talk about the range of Gods that Hindus believe in. The children also had a great time looking at the dancing that comes from Hinduism and trying to recreate the dance. Thank-you for joining us in our learning.

Our Class Assembly - The Rosary

This week the children worked extremely hard preparing for their class assembly! We focused on the Rosary and how Mary is our Mother from heaven and she asked us to pray the Rosary. The purpose of the rosary is to meditate on the mysteries of Jesus' Life, Death and Resurrection so that we may draw closer to him.  The children also looked at how important our Mums are and everything they do for us. All of the children worked hard and learnt their lines very quickly. They were all very proud of the outcome! Have a look at some pictures taken of the assembly below!
