Library visit

Year 5 had a trip to Pendleton library this week to become official library members! They each received a membership card and checked out their first library book. 

Prayer stations

KS2 completed prayer stations this week, following the theme of 'The Kingdom of God'. Here are some pictures of Year 5 completing each of the stations.

British Values Week

This week at Holy Family, we have been learning about British Values. Mr Pugh led us in a class assembly on Monday all about what British values are, and why they are important. On Thursday morning, parents were invited into school to explore how we can respect other people's choice and values. On Friday, each child wore their 'house colours' (Blue/Green/Yellow/Red) to represent their school houses (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). 

Class Assembly

Holocaust Memorial Day is on the 27th January every year. Year 5 assembly's explained the horrors of Nazi persecution during WW2 and we prayed for the eternal souls of every victim of the Holocaust. 

Autumn Art topic- William Morris

In the Autumn term, Year 5 have been studying the life and work of William Morris, a famous British textile artist. The children learned different shading and colour mixing techniques before completing their final pieces in the style of William Morris. Here is some of their work. 

Christmas carols at Media City

Year 5 and the school choir went to Media City on Monday afternoon to perform Christmas carols. They received lots of compliments on how well they sang and were outstanding ambassadors of Holy Family. Well done boys and girls. 

Jack and the beanstalk

As a Christmas treat, KS2 went to Salford Arts Theatre to watch a pantomime- Jack and the beanstalk. We had a fabulous time! (Oh yes we did!)

Advent craft morning

Parents were invited into school this morning to complete Advent crafts with the children, and then we went into the hall to complete our prayer stations. Here are some photos from the day.

Multi-faith morning

At Holy Family, each class study a different religion over 6 lessons that are taught throughout the academic year. For Year 5, our class multi-faith religion is Islam. Parents were invited into school to explore Islam in our first lesson of the year, where the focus was the origin of Islam. The children used atlas' to locate the key countries in the Islamic faith, and then completed a jigsaw puzzle to create a map. Here are some photos from the day.

Laudato Si' Assembly

On Thursday 22nd September, Year 5 had our first class assembly. Our topic was 'Laudato Si', which is all about Pope Francis' plea for us to all help to care for our 'common home'. Here are some photos from the assembly.

Year 5 Class Charity

 

 

Lifeshare is a voluntary organisation established to help meet the needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Manchester and Salford. The first point of contact is with people on the streets, offering practical assistance, support and information. From this point they offer continued assistance that enables people to secure suitable accommodation, support them in maintaining their tenancies, and help them to access initiatives that carry their lives forward.

Their main objectives are to:

  • To identify street homelessness and offer assistance in obtaining emergency accommodation, signposting other relevant agencies and information for support.
  • To alleviate aspects of poverty and hardship through redistribution of resources.
  • To assist people to access health care and to promote health and harm reduction.
