Rights and Diversity Week

This week we  have been celebrating Rights and Diversity Week in school. We have thought about the Unconditional and Universal human rights of all children. In class today, the children engaged in a collective worship where they considered the following words from the Gospel of St John.

'Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and truth.'

We related this to the Unicef Rights and how we can act in deed to ensure that those rights are respected. The children have also worked on a programme of lessons this week which have looked at a whole range of questions relating to children's rights. Themes discussed included:

  • The right to a good education
  • The right to nutritious food and shelter
  • The right for your voice to be heard
  • Your right to practice you own culture, language and religion

Over the week, the children were able to understand that they have a rights but that people also have responsibilities to ensure everybody's rights are respected.

Also, as part of the week we worked together to understand that we should stand up to bullies. We wore odd socks in support of Anti-Bullying week.
